EPC 2-2016 installation tips

Finding help with later EPC installations seems to be time consuming. My experiences might help some members struggling with similar issues:

My system is 64bit Windows 10 version 1607. The EPC installation is 2-2016.

If the EWA Admin tool reports Unknown Lan ID, try disable hidden network adapters from Windows Device Manager; from top bar menu, select “Show hidden devices”.

For keys you need a newer key generator program like “New EPCnet EWAnet KG”. I found a working copy from this forum. My virus scanner reports malware in it but I have not spotted any severe symptoms. Older e.g. 2008 keygen may work but datacards will be disabled. If datacard is still disabled, copy-paste key “ec9kv9zfvrglv3l9t79zqx24bqz5pa2” into keygen, analyse it, edit your network card Lan ID and generate new key. Even with this trick, I fail to get newer e.g. W205 datacards from EPC. My older R129 500SL datacard became available with key generated by this method.

Installation is a PITA and often fails. Before trying reinstall, use Win 10 Apps & features uninstall, the tool on the EPC disk “CleanEWAInstallation”. Download and run Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall. Search registry with keyword “Daimler” and delete everything you find.

If your EWA server fails to start, try setting applications tomcat7.exe and tomacat7w.exe compatibility mode to Win7 and run as administrator. They are on your hard drive in folder “…\Program Files (x86)\EWA net\server\bin”. In Java control panel you must set exception site "http://localhost:9000". Newer Java versions tend to stumble into tighter security. If problems, the Java version on the EPC disk should work; uninstall newer Java and install from EPC - do not update.

First time you launch EWA net, login user is "admin" and password is "admin". The system requires you change at least the default password.
